New Insurer Notice Requirements Provide Physicians and the Ohio Department of Insurance With More Notice

Ohio Senate Bill 187, enacted into law in June 2004, significantly changed notice requirements for professional liability insurers in the following ways:

Insurers must provide at least 60 days notice of non-renewal or substantial rate increase (as opposed to 30 days)
Insurers must provide grounds for cancellation or substantial increase
Insurers must comply with a mandatory notice of 180 days to the Ohio Department of Insurance if leaving the market and 120 days for changes in market presence
