Are You Permitted to Release Information in the Medical Record Which You Received From Another Provider?
With a proper release form, HIPAA permits the release of portions of the medical record which include information received from another provider, such as the patient's prior physician, a hospital or a specialist.
If a patient requests that you release their entire medical record, records received from other providers should be copied together with any records generated by your office.
